The Honjin & Waki-Honjin @ Kiso Valley, Tsumago.
In my other post regarding the preserve old post town, I mentioned that there were old style inn that you could take a look at. I manage to explore these 2 place and get a brief explanation from the kind aunties that manage those place. I even managed to get a group photo of them below!
This was the entry for one of the smaller honjin. It looks better than the bigger one to be honest. As you can see from the picture above, there was a small fee to be paid before you are allowed in. Go for the combination of both places!
Each of the honjin have their own moss garden. Trust the Japanese to be able to create something beautiful even from moss! I found the garden to be pleasant looking and there was something peaceful about it if you look at it long enough!
It was raining when I was there and this probably made the moss looks greener than it should and much more fresh! Hahaha.
Below was the inside of the honjin. The floor are made of either tatami or a wooden floor. The one in the bottom right was the fire place and the Japanese family will seat around it back in the day.
Its pretty dark but there are some carving on the wooden wall and the attention to detail was amazing! I honestly think this place was pretty cool!
